Arts and culture abound in Providence, a city that celebrates culture through its many museums, theaters, art galleries, and progressive entertainment venues.  In addition, Providence is famous for its beautifully preserved historic architecture, with more buildings on the National Historic Register than anywhere else.  Included in this renaissnace are such cultural attractions as:
  • Arts Lit, a performance space are repertory company with open spoken word and music sessions and classes, as well as full-scale theatrical productions.

  • Gallery Night Providence, a free, fun-filled introduction to Rhode Island's exciting art scene. From 5 to 9 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, ArTrolleys circulate throughout Providence stopping at the city's hot "art spots."
  • Gamm Theatre, As the cornerstone of the Arts Exchange at the Pawtucket Armory, The Gamm seeks to engage and enrich the community through affordable entertainment and educational programming.

  • Perishable Theatre, established 1983 Perishable Theatre's programming responds to today's pressing issues and concerns, and strives to raise questions and open a dialogue with the audience.
  • Providence Children's Museum, Rhode Island's only museum especially for children and their families. Providence Children's Museum is a hands-on place where kids and grown-ups play and learn together.
  • Providence Performing Arts Center, PPAC is an architectural jewel and landmark theatre located in the heart of the capital city and presents Broadway, children's and popular musical entertainment.
  • Providence Public Library, the Central Library provides in-depth collections of material for adults and children. Collections include print, audio/visual and electronic resources.
  • RISD Museum of Art, houses over 100,000 works of art, ranging from ancient Greek and Roman sculpture to French Impressionist painting; from Chinese stone and terracotta sculpture to contemporary art in every medium.   • RISD Works, Rhode Island School of Design's retail gallery store.
  • Trinity Repertory Company, presents a balance of world premiere, contemporary, and classic works, including seven major productions and an annual production of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.
  • WaterFire Providence, award-winning sculpture by Barnaby Evans installed on the three rivers of downtown Providence, has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art and a moving symbol of Providence’s renaissance.
