Contractor Open House Brings New Opportunity to Local Firms
On Thursday October 2, 2003, Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse and The Armory Revival Company hosted a contractor open house at Rising Sun Mills. A total of 18 contractor firms representing all areas of the construction industry gathered to learn about the contracting opportunities available as part of the Rising Sun Mills project. Craig Hawkins, Senior Project Manager for the Rising Sun Mills project, provided a brief presentation about the project and the specific bid opportunities available. Construction plans were made available for review and several members of the construction, development and community outreach staff were on hand to answer questions and register contractors so that they could be notified of upcoming bid opportunities. The contractor open house is part of Struever Bros. ongoing commitment to providing enhanced access, information and opportunities to local firms interested in partnering on the Rising Sun Mills project.

Puente Providence Launches New Site

PUENTE, which means "bridge" in Spanish, is a nonprofit organization that was conceived in the fall of 2002 to link the redevelopment of the Rising Sun Mills, in the Valley district of Providence with sustainable support for the local community before, during and after development.

The organization has launched a new website so that interested parties can learn more.

To flourish, an ecosystem relies on a complex network of relationships between every organism present.  PUENTE's goal is to facilitate those relationships and conversations, to foster a bridge between people, communities and ideas.

Within PUENTE's walls, tenants will benefit from this cross-fertilization of ideas, strategies and vision. The presence of artists, for- and non-profit organizations, students, public spaces, and residential unit, will create a rich community.
